Magic Jack Internet Phone Review

!±8± Magic Jack Internet Phone Review

Magic Jack is a newcomer to the VOIP (voice over internet protocol) family of internet phoning. It's quick to install, easy to use and the price can't be beat for making unlimited local and long distance calls in the United States and Canada. But is Magic Jack too good to be true?

Like most products, Magic Jack has it's good points and it's not-so-good points. It will be up to you to decide what is most important to you in internet phoning and to choose the product that should work best in your situation.

Magic Jack Pros

Low cost to try out. For .95 plus shipping and handling, you receive the USB device and the license to use it for unlimited local and long distance calling for one year. Each additional year is .95. There are also multi-year packages to purchase at a discount. International calls can be free if you are calling someone who also has the device. For example, if you have a family member that lives in another country, you can purchase a Magic Jack and mail it to them. Then you can call them for free and they can call anywhere in the US and Canada free. Includes many features such as voice mail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 411 and 911. Save on your cell phone minutes by using it to make calls from home. Uses any ordinary landline telephone, including cordless phones. Headsets and your computer microphone and speakers can also be used.

Magic Jack Cons

Your computer has to be turned on to use Magic Jack. Service can be intermittent. New company with growing pains, I don't recommend relying on it for your only phone. Directory assistance, or 411 is advertising based if you call it from your phone. If clicking on the soft phone screen that lives on your desktop, you are taken to a web site to look up phone numbers. 911 is through a different system than the 911 you call from a regular telephone. When setting up your Magic Jack it will ask you the physical location of your phone in case of calling 911. Until this service is a lot more stable, I would not rely on their 911 in an emergency. Another reason for keeping your landline phone. If your internet service does not work during a power outage, you will be without this phone service also. Unless you have a cell phone that will work, this is another reason not to cancel your landline phone service. Make sure you keep a phone that doesn't use electricity on hand for emergencies.

As with most or all voip services, you must have a high speed internet connection to use this service. These services include broadband, DSL, WiFi, FIOS, cable internet or WiMax. It is not recommended for use with satellite internet.

If you are interested in having a service that allows you to make free long distance calls, give Magic Jack a try. If dumping your current landline phone service is what you need, investigate the other VOIP services that are available and that have a longer track record of performance.

Why Do Businesses Prefer T1 and DS3 Bandwidth Connections?

!±8± Why Do Businesses Prefer T1 and DS3 Bandwidth Connections?

When a business needs a bandwidth connection for their voice/data network applications they almost always choose a T1 or T3 connection. What is a T1 and a DS3 connection? Why are there better than DSL and cable for business needs?

T1 (1.544 Mbps) and DS3 (45 Mbps) connections are traditional business-class digital leased phone lines. The technology is pre-cable and pre-DSL. The main advantage is service: If either one goes down, the phone company will bend over backwards to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Business rely on these lines for their income and a downed line can cost thousands of dollars an hour. They also have time-tested monitoring and diagnostic capabilities to keep them up, so they are more reliable.

A T1 breaks down into 24 channels. Each channel can either be used for a phone line or 64 Kbps of Internet. A business can have 8 phone lines and 1024 Kbps of Internet (16 X 64 Kbps) over a T1 for on average between 0-0. This is less expensive than paying for 8 phone lines + DSL/cable Internet making it better for them.

A DS3 breaks into 672 channels and costs several thousand dollars a month. However, T3 (or DS3) prices have been dropping steadily the last few years and can usually be found for between -4,000 in most areas. however, this still makes the cost impractical for smaller businesses in many cases.

Often a business will optimize capability and cost by choosing to install a fractional T1 or DS3 rather thsn full. The obvious benefit is reduced cost....and scalability can be built in for those times when surge capability is needed or strategic business growth is planned.

They are also different in that they don't connect directly to the Internet; they connect from one customer to another. So, for example, you could have a private line between two businesses with no Internet security hazards. Many people of course simply connect them to an ISP (whom you then have to pay an additional fee on top of what you pay Ma Bell for the T1 line).

They are symmetrical, unlike most DSL and cable lines; you get the same speed in both directions. Also important for businesses, especially those exchanging data between offices.

Like DSL lines, and unlike cable lines (which are shared), they are dedicated to one customer. Cable service is often unavailable to businesses, so that's another difference.

Not surprisingly, both can be expensive for a small business, DS3's absurdly so. Cost mostly depends on distance. This boils down to two simple components; local loop (the cost the local incumbent charges to transport the signal from the end user's central office, otherwise known as a CO, to the point of presence, otherwise known as a POP, of the carrier) and the port (the cost to access the telephone network or the Internet through the carrier's network). Typically, the port price is based upon access speed and yearly commitment level while the loop is based on geography. The further the CO and POP, the more the loop cost.

Unless you are running a business that cannot afford to go down for half a day, you are better off with cable or DSL service. Otherwise....for reliability, scalability, performance, and capacity you'd best evaluate your options for T1 or DS3 bandwidth application.

!±8± VoIP Requirements List - What You Need in Order to Use VoIP

The phone is really important piece of device for everyone. It lets you to connect with your family members and friends and it also lets you to get in touch with your business acquaintances. Nowadays, with the improvement in communication technology, it let people to get in touch more clearly at a really inexpensive charge per unit. Several communication mediums are also available free of charge, like e-mails.

With all the different types of communicating technology available now, you'd certainly wish to get the best sort of communication system available so that you will be able to get in touch with your family, friends and business acquaintances more efficiently as well as at a great deal cheaper rate.

This sort of technology is called VoIP which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. This is available to everyone everywhere to allow for cheaper and more efficient calls. It is Different than traditional telephone systems because the VoIP employs the Net to transfer and pick up audio and video signals. The data transferred are in digital format. Since it's in digital format, it would allow swifter transmission rate at a much clearer and sharper sound quality.

Another amazing benefit of VoIP is that almost all VoIP service providers enable free-of-cost calls within their subscribers. This implies that if you're calling someone who's subscribed to the same VoIP service provider you are subscribed in wherever they are in the world you can call them free of charge. There would be no hidden charges, and not a single penny would be charged to you. Not just that, the calls are also unlimited.

Just think about it, if you're in the U.S., and you're calling somebody in the UK who's also subscribed to the same service provider you're subscribed in, you will be able to chat for hours without concern about the telephone bill.

Not only are VoIP phones able to offer you with free-of-cost calls, but also they charge much lower long distance fees and rates. For instance, if you're calling from your VoIP phone to a land line phone in another state or in another country, the foreign or long-distance charges will be much lower than charges which you'll have in traditional land line telephones.

All of these things are only the starting of the benefits of VoIP. VoIP provides free-of-cost features which are typically costly in land line phones. Features like three-way calling, video conferencing, caller ID, return call, call waiting and others are believed to be standard features of VoIP.

Due to these features, VoIP is believed to be the telephone of the future.

However, there are certain requirements in order for you to be able to use VoIP. The first requirement is broadband internet. Another requirement is the free VoIP software available in the net. You might also want to buy a router if you don't have one.
